Victory October CYCC Qualifier – CFC Quick-Rated Youth Chess Tournament (U10, U12, U14 & U16)

ELIGIBILITY

Age categories are based on the player’s year of birth for the 2027 CYCC:

• U10: Born in 2017 or later (includes U8 players)
• U12: Born in 2015 or 2016
• U14: Born in 2013 or 2014
• U16: Born in 2011 or 2012

U8 players will compete in the U10 section. A special Top U8 Trophy will be awarded.

U16 players are welcome and will compete together with the U14 players in a combined U14/U16 section. A Top U16 Trophy will be awarded.

SECTIONS

• U10 (U8 players are welcome)
• U12
• Combined U14/U16

Other sections may be combined depending on registration numbers.

No play-ups or play-downs are allowed.

FORMAT

Regular Swiss or Round Robin (depending on section size)

In Round 1 and 2, family members will not be paired against each other whenever possible.

TIME CONTROL

25 minutes per player with a 5-second increment per move.

SCHEDULE

Saturday, October 10, 2026

Opening Ceremony: 9:20 am

Round 1: 9:30 am

Round 2: 10:50 am

Free pizza lunch for players: 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm

Round 3: 12:30 pm

Round 4: 1:50 pm

Round 5: 3:10 pm

Awards ceremony immediately after the final round, at approximately 4:30 pm.

DEFAUL TIME

25 minutes from the start of the round.

BYE POLICY

All requested byes are 0-point byes. A player may be marked as “not paired” for a requested round, but no half-point byes will be awarded.

ENTRY FEES

• Early Bird Rate: $30 – Available until Sunday, October 4

• Regular Rate: $40 – Applies from  Monday, October 4  until registration closes on Friday, October 9 at 8:00 pm.

No on-site registration  will be accepted.

Each player may receive only one trophy.

If a U8 player finishes 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the U10 section, they will receive the U10 placement trophy. The Top U8 Trophy will then be awarded to the next highest-ranked U8 player who has not already received a trophy.

U14 awards will be determined based on the standings of the U14 players competing in the combined U14/U16 section. The highest-ranked U16 player will receive the Top U16 Trophy.

QUALIFICATION

Players achieving a score of at least 50% (2.5/5.0) will qualify to compete in the 2027 Canadian Youth Chess Championship.

TIEBREAK RULES

1) Direct encounter

2) Buchholz - 1 (The same as Buchholz (sum of opponents’ scores), but the lowest opponent’s score is left out)

3) Buchholz (Sum of all opponents’ scores)

4) Sonneborn-Berger (Opponents’ scores: full points for wins, half points for draws.)

5) Number of  Games Won

CANCELLATION POLICY

$5 processing fee will be applied to any cancellations made on or before October 4.
No refunds will be issued for cancellations made after October 4.
