Victory Etobicoke Youth Open - CFC-Rated Chess Tournament - Under 18

ELIGIBILITY

This tournament is open to all players who will be 18 years old or younger as of January 1, 2027.

SECTIONS

U1300 - based on CFC Quick Rating    Registered Players

U1700 - based on CFC Quick Rating   Registered Players

No play-ups allowed.

CAPACITY

20 players per section

FORMAT

5-round Swiss 

In Round 1 and 2, family members will not be paired against each other whenever possible.

TIME CONTROL

25 minutes per player with a 5-second increment per move.

SCHEDULE

Saturday, August 29, 2026

Round 1: 10:30 am

Round 2: 11:50 am

Round 3: 1:10 pm

Free pizza and juice for players: 2:15 pm - 3:00 pm

Round 4: 3:00 pm

Round 5: 4:20 pm

Awards ceremony immediately after the final round (approximately 5:35 pm)

ENTRY FEES

Free - supported by the City of Toronto Civic Spark Microgrant 2026

No on-site registration will be accepted.

PLAYER COMMITMENT

This is a free tournament with limited spots. By registering, families confirm that the player intends to play all 5 rounds.

Players should only withdraw for a necessary reason, such as illness, emergency, or serious family matter.

Withdrawing without a necessary reason affects the pairings and may cause another child to receive a bye instead of playing.

Players who withdraw without a necessary reason, cancel at the last minute, or do not show up may lose priority for future free Victory Chess Club events.

U1300: 

1st place: Certificate + chess set with vinyl board in a tube bag.

2nd place: Certificate + chess set with vinyl board in a tube bag.

3rd place: Certificate + chess set with vinyl board in a tube bag.

U1700:

1st place: Certificate + chess set with vinyl board in a tube bag.

2nd place: Certificate + chess set with vinyl board in a tube bag.

3rd place: Certificate + chess set with vinyl board in a tube bag.

TIEBREAKS

1) Direct encounter

2) Buchholz - 1 (The same as Buchholz (sum of opponents’ scores), but the lowest opponent’s score is left out)

3) Buchholz ((Sum of all opponents’ scores)

4) Sonneborn-Berger (Opponents’ scores: full points for wins, half points for draws.)

5) Number of  Games Won
